The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs is our local hockey team and made it into the 2004 CHL President's Cup Final only to lose on a controversal call in game 7. :bandhead:

I know squatola about hockey so some of you hockey experts please look at this video and post your opinions.

You can get the video here. LINK (http://www.ktbs.com/sports/Video.html) There are 2 angles, the angle from above is the best and it shows the Mudbug's goal that was waived off that is mentioned below. The waive off was kinda hard to see but the one that ended the game IMO clearly hit the bar and never went into the net.

Laredo Wins President's Cup?
4/29/04
With a disputed goal from Dion Hyman at 8:43 of overtime, the Laredo Bucks defeated the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in Game 7 of the 2004 CHL President's Cup Finals.

For the first time in CHL/WPHL history, a Game 7 went into overtime for the championship after the two teams were tied at 2-2 through 60 minutes. Trevor Buchanan scored in the first period and Wes Blevins struck in the third for the Mudbugs. In overtime, David Oliver appeared to jam a puck past Laredo netminder David Guerrera. However, the goal was waved off by referee Steve Cruickshank. At 8:43 of the extra session, Dion Hyman fired a slap shot that hit the post behind Ken Carroll. After discussing the play with the goal judge, Cruickshank ruled it a goal and gave the Laredo Bucks the 2004 Central Hockey League championship. For more information, please call 318-752-2847.

BTW The goal judge that had the final call just happened to live in Laredo, Smells like home cooking to me.

You need to have Windows Media Player 9 to view the videos, the link to MS on that webpage doesn't load. You can get it HERE (http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/MicrosoftMediaPlayer/)

As for that first goal, the ref can waive it off it he claims to have lost site of the puck. If the whistle goes than the play is dead no matter what. Also, the whistle doesn't actually have to be blown, the ref can be in the process of blowing it. It looks like the puck came off the boards and got caught in the goalie's equipment. It may have been just enough to get a whistle, but it would have been close.

The second one you can't really tell if it hits the post, or the bar inside the net. If they had video replay they should have gone to that but if its inconclusive, whatever was called on the ice stands.

OT - Pure, you're a roller hockey ref? I'm a roller hockey player. Where do you ref?

Sadly they don't use instant replay, Even in the playoffs. I believe they said it would cost $120k to use. Bet they have it next year, It sucks that changes for the good have to brought about in a reactive way. :bandhead:

Hard to say where the waved off goal went, the way it came out, looks like it hit the left goal post, then the right and came out, without sound it's a bitch, but waving that off seamed correct.

Game winner, the ref had perfect position to see it. Looked like it hit the goalie in the back of the leg and dropped between his legs and was loose. The guy who scored definately knew where it was. Defence blew that one. I hate those calls.
