has to be free. (don have money) That will compress the pictures I have so that they can be viewed on gamemecca and still be under 50k. As my sigs become more complex, I'm finding it harder to get them under the bar without making them a dot on the screen. Will winzip or .RAR work on this or is there something else?

winrar or winzip won't work. There are some programs out there that I am sure that you can compress the file size. I know fireworks mx does this. I went from a 300K pic in my sig (note there were other stuff in there) and got the whole thing less then 50K. I had a few other pics in there as well.

http://macromedia.com/software/fireworks/?..._prod_fw_082403 (http://macromedia.com/software/fireworks/?promoid=home_prod_fw_082403)

They have a 30 day free trial, after that you have to pay for it. If you are a student, you can get the whole studio mx for around $200. That's how I got mine  Macromedia PWNS! :jammin:

Doesn't Paint (comes with system) do what he wants?

As far as I know Paint doesn't have any compression tools. :)

Go to download.com and grab PaintShop Pro. Its a free trial but it will do what you need and is almost as powerful as Photoshop.

1) what type of picture? a jpg, a gif, or a swf?
2) jpgs can be compressed by saving at a reduced image quality
3) gifs can be compressed by:
a) enabling tweening (where each additonal frame is overlayed on the prior
b) reducing the color palette (to 128 or maybe less)
c) deleting frames
d) cropping non-essential space around the animation
e) reducing image size
f) saving as a lossy gif (a setting in one of the floating toolbars in imageready)
4) swfs, you are on your own...

exactly jim!

and photoimpact have this feature,,, its not for free thought, but i still work with this progy 2 years and dont want to head to photoshop
i have 3dsmax, that would be appreciated if someone could gimme good newb tutorials on it.... merging those progs together people becomes strong designers (bryce 5, corel, photoshop, photoimpact, 3dsmax, swish and flash mx are the best graphic programs for home use) better own one of them, not mess with cheap and useless progies
