I got a new fast Pc from my Grandmother(AMD ATHLON XP 1400+)...
And my friend said that I could overclock it, and make 3 times faster like an 3Ghz Pentium P4....

And then I put thermal compound on the exhaust....

after this work I went into the Biose (dont know how it is written) and made the Frontside Bus (like my friend said) higher

old worth:
100MHZ
new worth:
145 Mhz (the display said that I can made it to 166Mhz)

then I saved it and I reboot the PC(didn't know to press this button there)

Then there were strange noises and I smells like fish....
no I am on the Pc of my mother (an old P4) and writing these words, I hope that you can help me

some more questions:
1) Where for is the "P" in P4?
2)If my Pc started to work soon, is the a Possibility to make an GF5 out of my GF4 MX440 ???

Thank you!

did the system include a whole bunch of crack that you smoked?
or did your friend share with you?

At most, you may be able to get the FSB up to 105 or 110 mhz,
but you have to try the low numbers first before going to higher ones.

I don't know what you mean by putting thermal compound on the exhaust,
it goes on top of the cpu, and the heat sink/fan on top of it. you should only
have used a very thin layer of the compound. more is worse,
and if you had stuff squirting out the sides, that is very bad.

as for the GF4, it is always going to suck, although you can adjust the
core and memory speed to make it suck a little less.

the coolbits tweak is:
First you need to open your registry by clicking Start/Run then typing "regedit". After doing this you need to make your way to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Global" and then you need to right click on "Global" and create a new key called "NVTweak". The "NVTweak" directory may already exist in which case start from this point. Once you've done this you then need to right click on "NVTweak" and choose the option to create a new dword value which you need to name "Coolbits". Finally, double click on the new "Coolbits" key and in the box that opens enter the value "3".

I take of the fan now, because it was very loud and the Pc was always hot and no I did a lot of thermal compound on the Metall there...did I something wrong?

sorry with exhaust I mean fan (stupid google Translator  )

Sounds like you wrecked something, but whether you did or not, I find that sentence absolutely hilarious!

I dunno about fish, but if you smoked the chip, it has a nasty, electricity/pcb smell. If you can smell the chip, it doesn't look good. OCing should be done incrementally for chip safety, and putting on excessive thermal goop strains it that much more. Not all chips are equally OCable.

some more questions:
1) Where for is the "P" in P4?

I'm not sure I understand that, but P is for Pentium.

2)If my Pc started to work soon, is the a Possibility to make an GF5 out of my GF4 MX440 ???

If it stopped working on the maiden OCing attempt, and you're not able to reset to defaults and get it to boot as it did before, it probably won't work again, not without a new proc, if that's where the new smell is coming from. The GF4 MX 440 is about a GF 2.5, performance-wise, and if you tweak it up, you'll no doubt get a little more mileage out of it, but you'd hate to push it too far.

Did I use not enough of thermal compound ? :WTF:

I will put more on it now...because I leave out the fan because it was always very loud and my Pc was always hot so I leave it out

no offence, but you must be kidding us

even if you dont know much about pc you should know that OC doesnt make a uptodate pc out of nothing. your cpu OC would eventually work with a watercooling, but even that i doubt... :WTF:

so do you mean I should build a watercooling? but how......??
I wash my Pc to get the thermal compound from my Cards now.... but It still doesnt work...I also put the fan back on it......
It there a connection that the water falls on the big thing in my Pc?

you need to find someone that knows about computers to put your
system back together for you. if your computer was wet, and you
turned it on, then it is probably dead.
if it turns on, but does not work, then the bios may need to be reset,
to put the FSB back to 100. to reset the bios, take the battery
out of the computer for a few minutes.
(i could mention shorting the pins but you see how that would go over...)
