Be very careful when removing them. Especially if it's the fan on an AMD XP2000+ (or something close to that).

I was trying to be careful about it, but ended up slicing through 6 traces leading to the ram on my motherboard when I tried to change out my ailing CPU fan.

Short version of the story is that it cost me $59 for a new motherboard.

You have been warned.

i blame amd ofr hat crappy design. pisses me off that still to this day, the xp chips have crappy fans. they may be better then the old ones but still not good enough. i like the a64 setup so i guess they don't care about xp chips.

I've heard using a credit card will help in removing the heatsink.

I have a screwdriver that fits my HSF perfectly.

lol, i hate those damn fans, hard to put on and hard to pull off,
and if your tool slips, easy to screw the board....

 i take it you never removed a p4 fan? sometimes they are easy sometimes they are just as difficult. the socket a boards are easy also but need the right size screwdriver or else--well what the topic is about.

maybe not but they can be a real pain in the arse aswell. i guess it all comes down to the positioning of the system board and the way thesocket is placed upwards or sidwards. that makes a world of difference when you are not fighting a power supply.
