A few points:

1/ That screenie was taken at 6:00 AM Euro time. So middle of the night everywhere else. No wonder they were empty

2/ I have played Sam everday this week and have often had problems getting on servers because they are full

3/ Sam dead? The hell it is :jammin:

The sad part is that there ALWAYS appears to be people wanting to play Sam, but unless they see at least two people currently in a server they don't join.

I've seen every server pretty much completely empty for the longest time, but as soon as Julia and I join within minutes the five or six more people will have joined. :WTF:

I still can't afford to buy UT2004. :bandhead:

Anyone know approximately when SS2 is scheduled for release??

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it's release, and I'm sure it will cost more than the $34 UT is going for.
I've been hearing about Sam 2 for 1-1/2 years and have only seen a movie footage and have heard some discouraging reports about multiplayer plans. It's too bad.

I don't know WHY they can't at least give an estimated release date. Look at Halo2 and DeusEx2; they gave estimated release dates that were bumped back at least a thousand times (not a hyperboyle -- and we are still waiting for Halo2), but at least they gave one!!

Every couple of weeks Croteam's website has some new amazing sounding update about this or that apparantly wonderful SS2 breakthrough or feature that they've completed, but apparantly they don't add up to a whole game yet.

eh, ignore pure. he likes to rip sam, but despite all of that the
multiplayer is still some of the best i have played. compare it to
painkiller (which is fantastic SP) when in MP you get to 30 ping servers,
and if feels like moving through butter, shots feel random, etc. mp
is really hard to do well. so for the next version of sam, it would be
nice to know where and when, but realistically, they would
probably say that it will take as long as it takes. maybe that is better
then giving imaginary estimates. the SP game will probably continue to
be what it is (tons of enemies) but they are probably looking for
an ongoing revenue stream which would be through licensing the
engine. so when you read about features that are being added to the
game engine, it isn't for you and me or the people buying ss2 - it will
be for people to license the engine and make better games. besides,
many of the foreign games have been pretty close to bargain bin on
release, so $25 is probably more on the mark. anyway, you want to
cross your fingers on the mp game and hope that they get it right.
may be a lot to expect from a small croteam outfit, but then again
original sam did tons of things so much better than anybody ever
expected and can barely be replicated in current games of today.

OK, Jim says I like to rip sam, and that's not true, I point out the sad truths about the game and always state that I'm dissapointed Croteam sold a beta as a finished product.

Here's the link to what I found discouraging.interview (http://www.gamemecca.net/v2/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=11&page=1)

GM: Will Sam 2 have an autodownload map feature for multiplayer?

It most probably will. We would very much like to include that feature, but we're still concerned about some security issues regarding autodownload and execution of custom script code. We want to make sure that it won't be possible for downloadable content to contain any kind of malicious code.
UT has been doing it for 5 years, why is this a security concern?

GM: What type of game modes will be in Sam 2 for both offline/online play?

We will definitely have Cooperative play, as Coop was one of Serious Sam's main points.
Excuse me  but how about deathmatch and TDM, you know, the ones that aide clans and support the game.

I'm sure single player will be fun, but I'm thinking multiplayer will be a after thought and turn out like PK and SSSE. Not like UT, Quake, BF.

I think if it's a great multiplayer game that you want, look elsewhere.

You can't diss a game that hasn't been released and in the interview Goran probably didn't want to give away all the great features that we can expect from SS2.
Sam by no means sux because single player is revolutionary and the concept of fighting loads (yea 50) of enemies at once prevails!
I find the multiplayer aspect of ssam unique and very different from the other games (i hardly get lag and im sorry for the people that do but thats their problem) ssam is also fun to make movies for because of the limitless frag options (air rocket kills, air sniper kills, grenade air kills, anything to do with being airbourne is great content)
UT is good because its so poplular and has nearky flawless netcode and other multiplayer features.

Maybe Croteam could like program SS2 with open-source netcode... you know, so all the like Linux people and/or Slice's four-year old cousin can improve on it.

Ummm, on second thought, that might be a REALLY bad idea...

>>>DISTURBING REALIZATION ALERT<<<

In the Goran interview numerous references are made to improved net-code and various cooperative play advances, but absolutely NO fragmatching reference is made -- the words never come up nor are they even implied.

In fact, it seems as if Goran is trying to gently key us in to the fact that there won't be ANY fragmatching in SS2 with his cryptic "We will definitely have Cooperative play, as Coop was one of Serious Sam's main points" and "[s]ome 30 levels for single player/cooperative, the rest is yet undetermine" statements. :(

its ok they have mod making software in the making as welll so someone will have to come up with a mod for DM if its not in base SS2.
