Aren't Spybots and Adware illegal? I go to yahoo and bam, spybot stops doubleclick, I go to hotmail and bang, it stops doubleclick AND AvenueA. WTF? Since the only ones i see getting blocked are those 2, what else are those mail programs pumping into my computer. Its all I can do to get my dial up to run a bit before I have to clean them out again.

I don't even go to dirty sites. GOOGLE, guys, GOOGLE!!!!!!!!!!
How can Microsoft be putting these things out as well as yahoo?
And while we're touching on microsoft, whats up with ctfmon.exe? Microsoft says its a legitimate program having something to do with speech recognition. Then why the H does spybot list it as virus/malware/resourcehog? More and more I find myself trusting spybot and becoming wery of Microsoft.

actually not everything these programs find are spyware or adware. they are cookies with code that keep track of a few things. i am sur ethey are just cookies being deleted which is fine since it's doing it as soon as you connect in. almost all website require a cookie to be placed in the cookie jar so let the software delete them on the fly and you are ok. it wont slow you down any more or less since a cookie is being place anyway.

SPYWARE, Legal Spam?

What is spyware and adware? Is spyware and adware legal? What can be done?

(PRWEB) November 10 2003--There are literally thousands of shareware and freeware applications on the Internet today that use spyware and adware. What is spyware and addware? In simplest terms it is portions of a program that track your Internet usage and display pop up ads based on your Internet usage. How does spyware get on your computer? Spyware can infect your computer from such simple internet usage as visiting a web page. Although this type of spyware is usually just a bad cookie that keeps track of your info incase you return to that site, much worse infections mainly come from shareware and freeware version of some of the most popular titles on today's market. The bad news is there are no laws against this type of advertising as of yet.

What can be done? There are spyware removal programs on the internet such as Spyware Cop from www.spyware-cop.com (http://www.spyware-cop.com/) that scan your computer for spyware and adware and remove them safely, allowing you to create back ups of the files before you remove them. Spyware Cop also provides monthly updates to protect against the newest spyware and adware programs that develop.
