Microsoft will be releasing service pack 2 for XP

From what I hear in the next few days. I wonder if it is just all security fixes or they actually added some new features.

From what I have heard, be VERY careful installing SP2. It adds alot of security, but in the process, breaks some poorly written applications. I on getting it, huge download, but installing it on lesser critical PC's, like my grandson's first.

I have installed it months ago and there are alot of features in it that will do some good for your system. you may have a problem with some things that may not be to secure for the os and it will cause you problems. I have not had too many problems with it but the constant warnings kind of annoy me because i hate bill telling me whats he thinks i should do.

example-i do not like xp to do any automatic updtes but it will continue to warn you that you should if you disable it. this goes woth the new firewall and other added features to it.


i will say, that if any of you are running an illegal copy of xp such as corporate, you will not be able to install the new windows update feature that you will need for sp2. It will ck your key from the remote server. i can understand that bill wants to make sure he gets paid for each copy but for people like me and others that paid for it already, we shouldnt have had to wait this long for this service pack. this is where ms pisses me off and say he deserves to have his software stolen for the people who have to maintain networks/workstations and be lost with bugs and security flaws from the os. i won't even start btching about windows 2003 and the problems with terminal services.

anyway, it should be out soon but i wont hold my breath until i have the final release installed. i did get word it was delayed yet again but do not have enough solid proof to back the statement up.
for all of you a64 owners, you will want the nx flag feature that is in sp2.

Loaded it up yesterday. No problems here at all. DAOC worked fine. Haven't played Sam yet.

I like the pop-up blocker that comes with it. Now I can uninstall the one I had been using.

All seems fine with my PC after the install.
