The best monitor I've ever had, an 8 year old ViewSonic 19" CRT is on its last breath so I'm looking for a new one. What are some good ones for under $200? I'd love to get another Viewsonic but I'd be open to other brands.

go to newegg, they start at 129, $135 for .21mm dpi, $154 for a Mag with 1900X1200, $169 for a viewsonic, although dotpitch sucks at .27mm, a samsung .20mm, 1920 X 1440 @ 189, the equivlent viewsonic can be found for $202

When I bought the new AMD64 rig a few months back, I shopped around for a new 19" myself.
I settled on the Viewsonic A90f+ which I got at Bestbuy for 229.00
Can most likely find it a little cheaper on-line, but I'm a habitual "Gotta have it NOW NOW NOW" guy. :D
So far, it's been nothing short of excellent.
I read a review that mentioned it had some distorted geometry, but I have so far failed to see anything like that.
Also read another review that said it hummed badly, which I also haven't had any problems with.
The "ultra-brite" mode is a GODSEND when playing a game on really dark maps. Just press the button and it makes a tremendous difference in brightness and contrast.

I have the same monitor, so far not one complaint, and Bingo is right about the "UltraBrite" mode, it really makes a big difference in the darker maps.
I would recommend this monitor with out hesitation, but thats just my opinion ;)

I'm another guy that has to buy right now!....3 weeks ago my old monitor died right after making very loud popping noise, scared the crap out of me.
I bought a Viewsonic 19" EFT920 at staples for $199. It has .21 Dot pitch and 1600x1200 max resolution. I'm very happy with it

I ended up going out today and picked up a Viewsonic A91f+ from Best Buy. It was $250 - $20 rebate - 10% off coupon. So far it seems damn nice.

Well today, the Viewsonic I bought in this thread just 2 months ago died. I flipped it on this morning, it fizzled, and wouldn't turn on again. I checked all cables and tried my old one and it worked so it was the new monitor. So I did what any pissed off retail customer would do in this situation. Went to Best Buy, bought the same one, switched boxes, and returned it.

lol, I know several people (not me) that have a bad habit of "upgrading" in this fashion....

I didn't really upgrade as much as I used the proper resources to expedite the repair process.

It's the American way. :D Heck one time I bought a tile saw while visiting my brother in Connecticut, tiled a room for him and we brought it back the next day at Lowes. The saw did have some problems with it though but it worked for the one room I tiled for him. :P

yes, i have heard too many stories about the lowes/home depot 3-week free rental process.... for a contrast my sister was telling me about her trip to greece. there the policy is that if you buy it. it's yours. i wonder how common return policies are in other parts of the wqrld.... :hmmm:
