each cd can hold 700 mb, 34gb = 50 cds. If you want to do a backup of this sort, i would suggest getting a dvd burner, they have become cheap as has dvds (get the +r disks.) each can store 5.4gb, and you can arrange them like: system files, personal files, mp3s, porn1, porn2, porn3, etc.... so 7 disks would do it, but realistically you only need to back up your personal stuff, saved games, etc. everything else you can reinstall, and a reinstall is going to be much better than a restore from disk...

whoops, i had some wrong info. a dvd can hold 4.7 gb. browsing newegg, I see that they have http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=27-152-023&DEPA=0 for only $72. That is an awesome deal, as it can write to dual layer dvds for 9.4 gb. The disks are still very very expensive, but eventually they will come down, like everything else does...
