"DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER: A smaller, more appropriate download will be available soon on Windows Update. To receive this download, turn on the Automatic Updates feature in Windows XP to receive an optimized download of SP2. Please visit Protect Your PC for more information on receiving Windows XP SP2."

i see no rush.

ignore that and continue to download it. the reason it says that is this is actually the full file that you should also burn on cd and keep it handy and/or put on your server for network install. if you choose the other way, the service pack will be installed remotely from microsoft and ummmmmm... do you really want to do that?

as far as it goes, it shouldnt give you too many problems but may prevent some of your software that is not secure to work. everything can be fixed but i do advise people that are installing this at your office to do it carefully to make sure all of your critical apps will not have a problem.

goodluck and if you run into any problems, i or a few others will be more than happy to help resolve any issues:thumbs:

Automatic update is not cool. Agreed BIGGD01!!
I think a good compromise is to be "notified of updates available."
And then download the criticals and sp's.

Well that was ugly.:banghead: For what ever reason after it was all said and done I got a GPF when it rebooted. It doesn’t like some thing. Manage to recover by getting into safe mode and uninstalling it. Seems to be fine now. Thank god lol. If you try this BACKUP YOUR CHIT

I tend to wait until MS releases stuff to the public. Then wait for the first set of people to get screwed. Then I wade in and take it like the rest of the MS users.

1--this service pack is released to the public.

2--if your system crashes due to this install, most likely your system was screwed up before the install but you didnt know it. i suggests doing a complete clean install and after os installation, put the service pack in.

3--if you have any problems, give the message or create a detailed list of whats going on so someone can help you.

4--always backup your chit:rolleyes:

I noticed Sam SE is on that list. I love how Microsoft just says "contact the vendor for a fix". I'll hold off on installing this.

eh, the firewall is now outgoing also. when an app tries to access the internet, you get a popup asking to allow it. of course if you are playing a 3d game, you don't see it. the solution is simple, just alt-tab (if you can) and say to allow.... it can also be manually configured but that is more work. or if you have a router, you can just turn the firewall off...

if you have allready a Servce pack 1 installed, you dont have to download full package of SP2, you can download 90MB one. also i thought the full package weights only 120 MB, why 300?
