I think this probably had more to do with it
Scandal marred McGreevey's tenure following questions over a series of questionable appointments, including the naming of Cipel to the newly created post of homeland security adviser without any background check or official announcement.

Amid questions about what Cipel did to earn his $110,000 salary and in March 2002, he was reassigned to a "special counsel" job. A few months later, Cipel left his government position.

The more they dig, the more they'll find.

Hmm, I don't know Pure. I've been listening to this for about a day now(I live in NJ), and the general consensus is that McGreevey stepped down because he feared that he would be charged with sexual harassment from Cipel(why is unclear), and such an allogation would undermine the position of governor and inhibit his ability to govern effectively.

On the other hand, you could be right, the real reason could have involved the scandel with Cipel and the lack of reasons behind his strange career. Maybe McGreevey felt pressured to provide an answer and by doing so was forced to admit his affair.

Change the names, throw in a murder in the mix and you would have a damn good "Law and Order" episode. :p:

Good to know that Louisiana isn't the only state that has had rascals in office. We have had many but most recently we had Edwin "Fast Eddie" Edwards http://www.sec.state.la.us/70.htm He served four terms in office, you will notice on that website, fourth paragraph the problems he had in his third term with federal indictments on mail fraud, obstruction of justice and bribery. What's bad is that we elected him AGAIN in 1992 or I guess it could be a good thing since he beat out David Duke which was an ex-Ku Klux Klansman leader. That webisite mentions in the fifth paragraph that he led the passage of land-based casino gambling legislation in his fourth term, that was his undoing. He was facing charges of federal racketeering, millions in fines and up to 350 years in prison and needless to say that he is now doing time. http://robwalker.net/html_docs/edwards.html
