Baseball strike to cost 1.9 billion yen. (About 17,000,000 dollars)

The economy is likely to take a 1.9 billion yen hit due to the first strike in Japanese professional baseball history.
In addition to baseball clubs and peripheral businesses affected by the strike, consumer sentiment, which was boosted by the Athens Olympics Games, may diminish, according to a securities analyst.

Some in the business community have asked why the planned merger of two baseball clubs provoked players to stage a strike.

According to estimates by Prof. Masahiro Miyamoto of the University of Osaka Prefecture's economics department, the work stoppage on Saturday and Sunday could lead to a loss of revenues totaling 1.9 billion yen, with losses of about 1.03 billion yen in admission fees, about 660 million yen in sales of food and beverages and related goods, and 200 million yen in broadcasting fees.

Anyway, professional baseball fans will decrease. :(
