Egypt is very interesting but also dangerous for any solo or single travelling women.

Glad I was invited for that trip from my belly dance teacher, who was several times in Cairo and Hurghada. She knows a lot about the mentality and so I felt much more safer to travel around with her. During that time I could have been married 31 times, it was sometimes really disturbing how the men came across streets and tried to pull me aside or inside some stores or houses. Thanks god we had always a travel guide with us, who protected us.

But the landscape is very special and impressive.

So I will post here some pics, to share with you my vacation time.

In Hurghada the view from our room to one of the 3 swimmingpools and the red sea was very nice.

The second day we travelled with a convoy of more than 40 busses to cairo. We left at 4am and arrived in cairo at noon for lunchtime. Since the terror attacks in luxor some years ago, the governement requests that all who wanna travel to cairo have to announce it and every bus has to get two busdrivers and one policeman for the security.

We had our private bus so it was a lot more comfortable for us. :)

During the afternnon we went to the bazar for shopping and to some spezial designers for show costumes. Madame Hekmet and her daughter made some changes especially for my new outfit while I was babysitting her sweet kitty.

Travelling around some suburbs of cairo, I have seen very picturesque places.

Some big dattel plantages, the only one railroad with level crossing and manual operation.

As we stopped at the lil village some kids were running to us and very happy to see eruopeans.

We gave them some gummybears, toffees, candies and cloth. They were sooo happy and I loved to see their sparkeling eyes. This is one of my favorite pics.

During the night in cairo we went to a special nightclub to see the show with some professional egyptian belly dancers. But we were not allowed to take any pics or video.

You can imagine after that show (it was 6am as it was finished) we were really tired and tried to sleep 3 hours in the hotel before we headed out to the pyramids of Gizeh.

Cause of the high temperature (47 degree C = 116,6 F) we had to be at Gizeh around 10am to enjoy the clear view.

Back at Hurghada we met another famous costume designer and expert for the belly dance szene… btw a rich man, but he was like a daddy for us. He took us out every night to another big club for dancing. This was a very new experience for me, cause I only took lessons since one year and had to dance with the professionals. At the beginning I was very shy, but than.. oh yeah the whole nightclub got hot up.

Live band with 6 musicians and 4 belly dancers don’t get any money from the nightclub owner for the shows. The belly dancers have to animate the peeps, especially the men, who will come to the dancer and throw money all over her. Women are not allowed to pay any bills in such a club, omly the accompagnied men. And of course, together with 4 profi dancers we could get lotsa money from all the sheiks and special men there.

Only the owener of the nightclub is allowed to collect the money from the floor and put it into a box which is standing all night in the middle of the stage. After the show the money is getting distributed between the dancers and musicians. This is the money they only earn for their show.

The dancer in cairo (very famous one) gets 3000 EUR $ per hour in their own nightclubs.

Last pic shows Djamila and me at 5am in the morning. her Homepage (http://www.djamila.de/)

Another wonderful trip was to luxor and valley of the kings. Same temperature as in cairo but much more humidity made me a bit dizzy in the afternoon. We had more than 50 degree C and you can imagine how hard it was to walk around with absolutely no chance to get any shade around there (especially in the valley of the kings).

Some impressions from the Karnak temple and the King tombs. Most relics and jewelery were moved from the tombs to the national museum in cairo, but to see the original paintings was very interesting and very impressive. The old egyptians needed 20 years to finish all the paintings in the tombs. We were not allowed to take pics (penalty 1000 EUR) because the original colour had to be protected.

Wow Rose it looks like you had an amazing trip. I'm soooo jealous. What amazes me is that we think of things in our (USA) history as being old, Shoot we can't touch Egypt's history which dates back to thousands of years!

Glad to see you had a good time, made it home safe and I love the new outfit Woohooo!!! :D

Cairo is a trip isn't it?! I was there in 94 when McDonald's built it's first restaurants there, and our company was there to establish a distribution center for them. Here's a picture of me hangin' with the homey's. :)

Welcome back home Rose!

I was awed by the pictures you took in Egypt. I would love to sit down and talk with you so you could tell me all about it. Like Shogun said, we Americans have no concept of history or the age of things. But your pictures captured quite a bit of the wonder of Egypt. Thanks for sharing them; they were wonderful.

And by the way, that new belly-dancer outfit is quite hot!

Those pics were fantastic Rosie. You sure did see a lot of the country, which looks fantastic! I know exactly what you mean about the folks on the streets!

The temperature is so hot over there it’s hard to explain unless you have been and experienced it yourself. [phew] When I was there, even though the a/c in the car was on full it was still coming out warm. Only in the evenings did the a/c get anything like cool. I saw car dashboards bend in the heat!

Did you go on a boat down the Nile??

I’m glad you had a good time and thanks for sharing your pics!
