Awesome. It looked like Ashley Simpson, the music guest, lip synched her crappy first song, and for her second song, they must have forgotten to advance the CD, because it started playing the first song again, complete with lyrics while she just stood there. She ended up running off stage and they cut to commercial.

Another crappy teeny bopper lip syncer PWNED!

I saw it last night as well. What's funny to me is that SNL could have edited it out but chose not to since Saturday Night Live isn't really "live". Maybe they are just as sick of it as well. :)

Are you sure it isn't live? During Weekend Update they mentioned the baseball game which ended just a couple of minutes earlier. I always thought it was live or on a few second delay.

You are right, they only did a delay for certain hosts not all of them. That is even better. :P

Doesn't look to me like her band messed up.....in fact, if you look at them during the clip, they seem to think its kinda funny.

Yea. They don't even stop or look around. Like they did it on purpose.

Playing the devil's advocate here...is it possible she was told to lip-sink by her record label? After all, that was a high profile gig and it wouldn't look good for her to miss a note. Older more established bands can pretty much do whatever they want, but the newbies are probably under the record company's thumb to the point where they have no say in anything.

I don't know if she has any talent or not, I've not even heard of her. But what I saw was a poor young inexperienced girl put in a position that she couldn't handle. And I'd be willing to bet $20 that she didn't have the choice to sing the song live.
I will partially agree with you, however what kind of performer are you if you have to lipsync in front of a live audience? Yes, she may be under pressure but if you can't hang with the big dogs then you don't belong there. Also, she is definitely not poor and has been mainstream for at least 6 months now. Her sister Jessica Simpson (who is married to Nick something or another and did that newly weds show on mtv) should have known better and given her better advice since they are so close. The record company may have played a part, but couldn't it really be that she really isn't that talented and deserves no credit? Synthesizers work wonders these days.....

She has her own show on MTV. I normally watch it and can't wait to see how this incident plays out on it next year.

eh, loozers. like elton john was ripping madonna because of her lip synch concerts. all that shi has become common, explanation being that if there is any problem with sore throat, etc, blah blah blah, and the real singing is mixed in, blah blah blah. i doubt you will see anything on live tv that is not lipsynched, but still if you are paying $150+ for a concert ticket, that shi better be real!

What do you mean? You can easily tell if someone is lipsyncing. The larnex doesn't quite make the normal bulge in your throat and the facial muscles around your mouth do not move to the same positions as if you were actually singing.

If you have ever been to a real live concert it would be so obvious, it wouldn't even be funny.

Just for the record. I saw Madonna live on her last tour and her voice never sounded better. Elton John is an ass for saying that.

And if you're going to perform on Saturday Night Live, you better be ready to actually sing live.

this issue was about a singer a year or two ago. It was revealed that they had prerecorded her singing a couple of days earlier, and her actual singing was a mix of the recording + her actual singing. The theory is that that way they can guarantee the show will go on, in case of sore throats or stuff like that. I think that is what would have happened here for SNL, but she was caught with the wrong song... They do actual singing, but obviously if you are singing to a track then you have to keep the original tempo as does the band. Results is that the audience gets shortchanged.
