8 EBay Sellers Admit to Phony Bids (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=528&e=1&u=/ap/20041108/ap_on_bi_ge/ebay_phony_bidding)

To me this just seems dumb. If people are willing to pay more than something is worth, then isn't their own dang fault? Why is it someone else's responsibility to do the research to make sure you are not overpaying?

Ebay is an interesting study in economics. While I certainly don't think bidding up your own items is ethical (nor should it be allowed), I think it's retarded that people actually bid over retail prices just to buy something on ebay.

i think you probably meant to post a new topic instead of add to this one. I agree though, for ebay it is best to make a bid, have a limit and stick to it. unfortunately lots of people find it addicting and these people are probably the ones that have the problem. Imagine how you would feel if you bid up an item to lose, and then had the seller contact you to say that the other buyer defaulted, did you want to buy it at your last bid?
