Took the weekend off and went hiking in the smoky mountains. Started on an old logging road that was a gentle uphill climb for about 2 miles, came to a fork in the trail and the path I needed to take crossed a creek with no bridge or rocks close enough to hop across. Off came the boots and in I went. Dang that water was cold, didn't feel my toes again until 200 yards on up the trail. Spent the night at a real nice backcountry campsite. Thought about hiking on the the next one, but as you can see by one of the following pictures it's a good thing I didn't.
Here's where I ate lunch the first day

A picture of part of the trail and a great view of the mountains. The tallest mountain on the left is part of the Appalachian Trail.

The reason I was glad I didn't hike on and stay at this campsite

Last but not least a photo of the creek I followed for about 5 miles.

Total trip was 14+ miles and a gain of 2500' in elevation. Couldn't have asked for better weather. I thanked God for that little taste of heaven ever chance I could.

Goober that looks awesome. Looks a lot like my trip into the Sierra mountains last summer. Glad you had a good time.
I dont have a good picture of the scenary on my computer but heres a bear in the more dryer and lower elevation. This dumbass was feeding it mcdonalds or something. Also a cool waterfall i liked

You just have to make sure to put your food up on a pole which is provided in Michigan where there are bear issues! BTW nice pics, Goob!! Thx for sharing!!

The park service over the past years has added a cable pulley system suspended between 2 trees to enable you to hang your pack out of reach of those pesky bears. That still doesn't keep them from sticking their nose in your tent if you happen to smell like the supper you just ate.

Great pics, fellas! Gracias for sharing. (Goobs where is your yummylicious visage though??).Sorry man...last time I posted my pic the GM server crashed, something about a decency clause in their contract.

Closest i ever get to the outdoors is to paw feebly at my boarded windows and sigh. If I ever get to the down under, I'll be sure to bring a pry bar and help you escape to the Outback....we'll share some beers and a few of the old and docile kangaroos.

Good to hear from you man......don't be such a stranger, your wit is sorely missed around here.
