I was just wondering... how does recycle bin work? Like does it actually delete the files you want it to after a period or time or do the files stay on your hard drive forever? (well atleast until u format :P )

Or use a little program called bcwipe or perhaps cyberscrub.

I think it only deletes the address of the files. You only get rid of them if they are written over. Call the FBI and ask if you can borrow some of their recovery software.

there is undelete software that will try to recover the files, ie, to look at where the file used to be and to try to put it back together. That works if there has been no disk activity, otherwise chances of recovery diminish quickly.

also there are programs that measure the magnitivity of the disk, in theory if you write over data it doesn't replace the prior data entirely, and if you subtract the current level you can find what the prior level is, and thus recover the original data. there is software that overwrites data 6 times to fully "erase" it. Really though for recovery like this you are talking about having the fbi or cia involved...

The program called TuneUp Utilities 2004 has a function where you can permeantly delete your files wth no way of recovering it.

tip, you have hit the nail right on the head. there are many programs out ther ethat will re write over a particular sector to make sure data can not be recovered. it's all zero's and one's my friends:thumbs: . the main purpose of the recycle bin was to have a safety net for files you chose to delete by executing the delete commend. in dos, there wasa comand that is undelete C:\ "what was deleted". that's kind of what the recyclebin is allowing you to undelete what has been deleted. i have a particular program that i use for data recovery that will pull data from lost or formatted hard drives. it has been a life saver fo many that i used it for but if the data has been wiped or the sectors have been rewritten over, the data is gone.
