I'm looking for some new speakers as I'm tired of gaming with only headphones. I've narrowed down my choices to two:

Logitech Z-640 - 5.1 Surround $45

Logitech X-620 - 6.1 Surround $45

I like the fact that the satellites can be mounted on the wall behind me for either system. For the same price I might as well go for 6.1 right? Any opinions?

There alot more than 50 bucks and sound awesome. the only problem I have is the wifey telling me to turn them down :) I also plug in my DVD player and stereo as well

If the price is the same, you might as well go for the better sounding 6.1 speakers, that is, assuming your sound card is capable of 6.1 output. I doubt this is a problem for you though Sal, lol

I would suspect not, after all it is a video card. :P

I guess it really depends what you are expecting out of them. http://www.you-review.net/Logitech-Z-640-6-Speaker-Surround-Sound-System_I3402.html

btw, i have zalman surround headphones, and.... eh, whatever. the ones in the review may be better, but i am not an audiophile, and i think all the speakers stuffed into each earphone just do not offer a distinct enough surround sound.

I already have a very nice set of headphones, the problem is that they pretty much cut me off from the world since they cancel outside noise. When I have them on, I hear nothing. The reason I need some speakers is when I have a baby sitting across from me, I might need to hear if it needs something while I'm playing. :)

Those are the ones that I have, a little more expensive, but they are awesome! Running them from an Audigy 2 sound card, it's improved my gaming quite a bit. If you want it loud, just crank em up and they are clean. I wouldn't get anything less then 5.1. Nothing like hearing a fight behind you to the right, and able to get in on the action

Just put the baby carrier on top of the monitor. That way you will probably notice when the baby is crying, and if that is not the case, the smell will probably get your attention....

Noise cancelling headphones and babies don't mix. I can testify to that. And even if they did, I wouldn't use them because my wife enjoys laughing at the OoD TS crowd (until Slash gets on...). :P

I would recommend the Creative 5.1 P5800 speakers. They are pretty cheap and sound great.
