Valve announced last week that they would be releasing a surprise along with the full SDK this week. Well, today they announced what the surprise is...

HL2 Official Deathmatch!

Also a pic from the developers is attached. This is what some of you were waiting for, and official deathmatch addition to HL2. I can't wait to get that gravity gun going. :)

It's official...run Half Life 2 and the first thing it will do is download and update for HL2...then, if you check My Games, HL2: DM will be there to install!!!

ROFL! Definitely! However, first I gotta find my disc 1...I lost it...and can't play the game w/o it. :bawling: I think my brother has it, though.

Well I tried it out for about 30 minutes. The server I went on had minimal lag, not much. It was actually kinda boring. It starts off by giving you the Gravity gun, MG, pistol, and three grenades. The map I played was overwatch. After like 15 mniutes I started to realize there was no time. THe server had umlimited time. As I played more, I realized the most effective weapon was the Gravity Gun. It was so easy to kill enemies with it. The action was very fast, I didn't find/see any health/armor boosters. It started to get repeititive after awhile. It wasn't that much fun. Hope valve will improve on it.

Right now everyone is playing on listen servers, most of which suck. As soon as the dedicated server is released we should see games with MUCH less lag.

eww gravity gun is the best weapon? lame. Make it like HL1DM (cept for cheap ass gauss rifle)!

The gravity gun is not the best weapon, but getting killed by a flying toilet is infinitely more amusing than getting killed by a rocket.

Hey, gamershell.com has a Create Server mod for deathmatch for download...

so if someone wants to try that, maybe it'll tide us over until the official valve one.

Actually I think this is the same one VE3D made. All it does is give you some more options to set like max players, passwords, and cheats. I downloaded and installed and it worked fine. Me and Psi had about an hour long game whipping crap at each other.

Also of note is in the latest Steam update they enabled auto-downloading of maps. There are already 3 new ones floating out there.

The gravity gun is not the best weapon, but getting killed by a flying toilet is infinitely more amusing than getting killed by a rocket. Well I think its the best weapon for me. It kills enemies in one hit a lot of the times.

Just tried this for the first time. Initial take is it ran nicely enough but the Gravity Gun was overpowered and annoying once you got past the initial fun of using it. :down:

I'm more partial to the glowing hot rebar gun or the colt.:thumbs:
