This past weekend my daughter and I went to the Smoky Mountains to camp....Thought I was talking about Serious Sam didn't y'all.
We stayed at the Cades Cove campground, It was beautiful up there. We had the whole campground to ourselves...Guess no one else was brave enough to endure the cold...5 deg F...(-15C for you overseas folks)...Well we weren't exactly alone. A herd of deer came through and 3 turkeys walked right through our campsite. Didn't want to go home.

Wow, does that look nice. I wouldn't do it though. I am tired of winter already, and I don't like to sleep in my Carharts.

We both had goose down sleeping bags that are rated to -20deg F...kept us nice and warm.

The kind that zip all the way up to your noggin? I could handle that...maybe. Long as I had some whiskey with me! :w00t:

lol Static.

Goobles now THAT looks like my idea of a bloody good time - curse the aussie summer i say. I LOVE fires (when controlled kids [smacks safety helmet loudly]) but i'm not sure i could camp for any length of time; after 24 hours i would probably, sadly, get bored.

Solution? I guess i could go off and have some kids to bring along.. [offhandedly] :P

Nice pics. Cheers for sharing them.

Never been there, is it part of the Appalachian mountain chain? Saw pictures of it, looks beautiful. The smoky's are less than an hour drive from where I live. When I was younger my friends and I would take a week after christmas and go hike in the back country....Wouldn't see another person for days.

No close, not quite. My bad. I thought you were one of the NY guys. Should've checked the bio . Ever read Walk in the Woods? Gives some nice descriptions on how cold the smokies are! I've hit good chunks of the AT in CT, NH, and Maine. MT Katahdin in Baxter State Park in Main is one of my favorite places.
Here's a family pick from NH on the Appalachian Trail. Sorry for the poor quality!

Very beautiful Goober and you and your daughter have the same smile and eyes.
God Bless you both.

Say hello to the wife for me and let her know that the cold has numb my toes and they need to be cut off. It’s been cool out here in New York City.

But Dixie.....you have your pick of the best campsites in the cold of winter.LOL
It wasn't all that bad....we had a half a rick of firewood, spent most of our free time walking the trails, so we kept warm. We took our oldest daughter camping in Colorado when she was less than a year old. She got the good sleeping bag. Wife and I snuggled real close to keep warm.
Both of my daughters love camping and don't care what the weather is like as long as they get to go.

Two more pictures in black and white before I go to sleep.

The first one is a view of the mountains that seperate Tennessee and North Carolina....If you crossed them you would be in Dixie and Machines territory.

No, that looks great. Anytime you can get away from phones and other sorts of tangled wires, that's good time. That's a little cold for me, but it looks great.
