Jerry Orbach, `Law and Order' Star, Dead From Cancer

Dec. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Jerry Orbach, who starred in the television crime drama ``Law & Order'' as sarcastic detective Lennie Briscoe and appeared in such Broadway musicals as ``42nd Street'' and ``Chicago,'' has died of prostate cancer.

Orbach, 69, died yesterday in an unidentified New York hospital, said Audrey Davis, a spokeswoman for the NBC television series. He began cancer treatment earlier this year, Orbach's manager, Robert Malcolm, told the New York Daily News this month.

No actually the last episode they showed him retiring from the force. Maybe they had plans to bring him back but I really think that they knew ahead of time.

ok, he "retired" from the tv show. but he is coming back as a private investigator for the new series. He will be back, just unknown as to how many shows were filmed.

Jim's right, they were going to have another spin off (what's this the 5th or 6th already?) of Law and Order. I forget what the name was going to be, it told on the webpage that I linked to but Bloomberg has already changed the webpage.

The show is going to be called Law & Order: Trial by Jury and supposedly will still be coming from something I read. IIRC, the show was going to be focused on the attorneys and Briscoe had retired as a cop to work for the DA's office as one of the investigators who assists them.
