You know I have noticed this many times lately especially with that AMD64 line that in the bios under memory settings most of the boards have configured the memory command timings to auto. when this is done, it at sets the memory to a 2t timing which will actually slow you down and make things less efficient if you have less then 4 gigs of ram. give it a look to see what your settings are at and if it is set to 2t or auto, i suggest manually setting it to 1t which will give you the performance it deserves.

make sure the setting you change is the command option and there should only be 2 choices such as 1 t or 2 t and maybe auto.

also make sure bank interleaving is set to 4 banks or auto is fine but not disabled.

on the a8v board--the option is on the bottom for this setting and most of the other boards also.

let me know your results by posting here. you might actually want to run a benchmark before and after to see the improvements.

also if you guys want to post your bios settings, i will take a look at them to see if i have any suggestions. you would be suprised to see how much performance could be hindered from just one setting like the first post i mention in this thread.

ok here we go one by one pic by pic.

memory freq-should be set 266
vcore should be set manually because it is set too high and is reporting 1.8 in another pic. depending which xp2000 you have (go here http://www.hwspirit.com/tools.php?m=cpu) it has to be set correctly. this is odd because it looks like it's set @ 1.75 which is palomino core setting but the bios is reporting your vcore @ 1.82 which will over heat and run crappy if it gets too hot. it appears you have a palomino core but i suggest setting your vcore manually to 1.75 and see if you get the bios to report it running in the bios's hardware monitor. if it is still high try lowering your vcore to 1.7 or maybe 1.675 until you see the vcore at the correct range.
palomino core should be 1.75 and thoroughbred core is 1.65 or 1.6.

set system performance to aggressive. if it wont boot up with this setting, clear the cmos and keep it on optimal.

everything seems ok with the rest

depending on what kind of ram you have such as pc2100-ddr266 or pc2700-ddr333 or pc3200-ddr400 i would suggest if you have anything faster then pc2100 in that machine to set the cas latency to 2.0.

the sdram command control should be set to 1t but if its on auto it might not be setting it on that. check your settings and see if you can manually configure it to 1 t. let me know the options.

the rest is in red paint

i didnt understand why you had multiple i/o pics but i edited 1 and you can follow it on all of these.

i/o devices

Disable both com/serial ports because most people don’t use these and if you don’t know what they are, you are not using them. Disable both of them.
The onboard ac97 is your sound card that’s integrated on your motherboard. If you have a sound blaster or other sound card in your system, this should be disabled. If you don’t, leave it as is.
Onboard game port—set this to disable.
Onboard midi is set right.

k

Some problems

when going to set the Vcore to 1.75 it did not have the correct one, It had; 1.750v,1.800v,1.825v and 1.850...Looks like mine was already set on 1.75..I would guess

and when I went to set my System performance to agressive all it listed was the one mine already had and "Turbo"

Also I didnt know what you were talking about/couldnt find when you was talking about the "Sdram control should be set to 1t"

Allso the "SD ram config either manual or optimal" says only user define or by spd

ok try it at turbo. as far as the vcore, what does the bios hardware monitor report it as after you manually set it for 1.75. i really think you need a bios update for that board but i am worried to tell you how to do that. maybe youknow someone close to you that can do it for you because if you screw it up, you are f'd.

look at the pictures and look where i put 1t in there where it's set to auto. what are the options other then auto?

and a question

what performance increases will i see?

ME BIGGD01
01-05-2005, 05:49 AM
well you have to do what you suually do beside look at naked men and see if your system seems smoother. you were posting saying you were having problems with your sysytem so maybe those problems will be gone (i hope). anyway, setting up your bios properly is first priority for a stabe and quick machine. if you want run the benchmarks again to see if you got any more performance by matching your before and after. let us know how you make out.

wait--when i say make out i am referring to your pc:thumbs: :D
