i find them to be irritating, with the phone home startup tasks, questions to upgrade and inconsistant user interfaces. The source for both has been released to enable porting of applications to other systems. Anyway that source has also been recompiled into win32 binaries. Loading those allows you to play rm & qt in media player. The source was not intended for recompiling on a win32 platform, if that bothers you, just press the next thread button.

There is a real player download and a quicktime download. both include windows media player classic, which is a low-impact but fully functional media player. as with anything gotten over the internet, be sure to viriscan and so forth before installing. these also include the ie plugins, so you may want to uninstall QT & RP in advance.
