View Full Version : Doom 3 The Resurection of Problems

So I recently purchased the expansion for Doom 3 and I've been having the problem recently of lag (non on line gameplay). After about 20 minutes of gameplay the game will begin to lag for any animation on the screen just about. I already tried bumping my settings down to "low quality" and turning off the effects but it still continues to have the same problem. I know my computer isn't anything new or fast anymore but it was able to play regular Doom 3 at medium quality with the effects turned on with no problems. It hacked Half Life 2 on high with all the good stuff on so I can't imagine my system being THAT incapable of being able to process this game when it already has been through something similar before. Iv'e already done the basic stuff like disk clean up, defrag, and cleaning out of junk and I updated to the latest ATI drivers (which I find questionable) so I don't know what else to try. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Basic System Info:
Athlon XP 2100+ @ 1.73ghz
1 GB of PC2100 DDR
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro (with latest drivers)

First of all Rivers go into your Doom 3 folder, go into the base folder

and make a new notepad document with this name without the quotation marks

"chaotic.cfg" you can name it whatever you want, just it HAS to have .cfg at the end of it

ok once thats done open it up with notepad..and copy and paste this into it

This is the second and last config that i use to greatly improve my fps

note this will not at all make your Doom look crappy, it just brings it down a little

anyway

make nother notepad document with "whatever.cfg" without quotations...keep in mind you can name it whatever you want

and copy and paste this into it (open with notepad)

now when you load up doom 3

type these following things in the console (ctrl+alt+~)

exec whateveryounamedit.cfg for both of the cfg's

that will execute them so that they will be loaded in the game

so if you named them chuck and darrel you would say

exec chuck.cfg

exec darrel.cfg

you should notice a big difference in game

tell me if these work bro

-Cody

edit::Also they should work in Ressurection of evil since ressurection runs off the Doom 3 pk files

so when you load up ressurection type the same things in too..to know they worked it should look like this

And if you want Doom 3 to run the best on your Ati card I suggest you get the 4.9 Doom 3 beta drivers

Yeah Chaotic are rigs are pretty damn similar. Thanks for the tip I'm gonna give that a try right now and I'll report back after some gameplay time.

Thanks for the tip but all it made my doom do is lock up. It'll load the level then when it gets to the end, Ill hear the sound but it'll never do anything after that but freeze. I'm gonna delete the two .cfg files and that should fix the freezing. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I don't think so.

it was this command

make sure this ones in correctly

com_videoRam "128"
seta image_cacheMegs "320"

from seeing problems like this in other threads it seems to me like his rig is starting to overheat after a while. Check your internal temp as soon as it starts to lag, think you may see a higher number than you may want

That thought never crossed my mind I'll do that caged thanks. I'll also re check the .cfg files as well.

I dont' know...whenever I've had overheating problems, my comp has just eventually crashed...i never really got lag.

Worth a try, though.
