View Full Version : Sound problems
About 25% of the time when I boot/reboot I have no sound. I have a Gamer Audigy with the latest drivers. I have always had this problem, even after I did a complete reformat and re-install. It seems to help a bit if I let all hard disk activity cease before I log in (I'm running Win2K and log in with a password).
Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be?

What size is your PS.
What video card do you have?
It could be that your PS just ain't got enough juice.
I think it's 300 watts, but I'm not sure.
I have a GF4 TI 4400.

Sirc if you haven't already, You might want to check for irq or resource conflicts when it happens.
If it's a VIA chipset motherboard, You might want to try putting the card in another PCI slot.

That might well be an IRQ problem, and it is odd which slots work best with which things. Also, if it is a Via, newer MB drivers might address that. I have the 4.45s on now, they seem to do my KT333 board well. What MB, drivers? Via Arena (http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=1) Here's a good site for Via info, software.
Also, here you can get the W2000 Audigy drivers, put out 12-31-02 if you don't have them.

Oh look! There are new drivers for the Audigy. I'll give those a shot. Thanks!
I upgraded the VIA drivers about 2 months ago. Seeing as I have a 2-yr old MB I doubt that the newer drivers are even addressing the older mobos anymore.
BTW, I have a Compaq Presario 7000 with an AMD Athlon 1.2 Gig processor. 512 meg memory.

You know, that older motherboard thinking sounds logical. Ignore it! I got away from VIA, but when I used that chipset, I discovered that you ALWAYS upgrade to the newest drivers. The install instuction for my 9700 Pro even stated to do this before installing.

Also make sure that your onboard audio is disabled in your BIOS.

BY, I love it! I think you're right, and the Machine has an important thing to check, too. That could definitely jack you up.

What does that do by disableing the onboard audio in BIOS? Is there ever a time you may need it?

you'll only need onboard audio when you don't have a separate sound card... when you do have a separate sound card and you keep the onboard audio as well there's a very good chance that there will be mucho conflicts
