firware for router

I was wondering if you think it`s worth upgrading the firmware for a router.

I have smc400br and i upgraded it yesterday.

Does it make that much of a difference?

And while im at it.Do routers all have the same level of security or his there a increase of security in new models brands?

firmware may fix problems or add additional features but it is probably not going to make anything run faster. any upgrades should include notes as to what is fixed or added.

the best routers include firewalls with SPI (stateful packet inspection). Cheaper routers are firewalls but do not have SPI. These prevent certain types of attacks.
