I wanna host a server for select few who ask me to so to have very low pingage. However, every time I try to host it either:

A) Doesn't show up on the master server

...or

B) Doesn't let them connect through IP becuase the port is unknown
(and I don't know how to find it)

Ideas are welcome on this subject

Are you on a router?

If you are thats the problem, you would have to open it up in a admin control thing and make your ports diff

I'm not a genious at all that..so im not sure how to change them correctly

i do have a router and am the administrator of it, therefore changing it will be easy as soon as I know what I'm looking to do.

It's been ages since I tried running an actual Quake server, but if my memory is still good, it should go off a default port unless you change it in your config. I don't remember what port is uses as default, but I'm sure you could do a search on google for quake server configs and get your answer on how to set it manually. As for the router, that is undoubtably your current problem. Unless the port Quake is trying to use has been opened up in the firewall, no data will get through. That's why your server can't talk to the master server, and also why nobody can connect.
