well, i downloaded the demo, followed instalation, which included direct X 9.0c, and then updated my nvidea drivers (Geforce4 4200Ti). Now i get the same thing i did when i used to try to play painkiller, it loads, the screen goes blank, then it bootsme back to the desktop as if nothing ever happened.

any ideas?

I had the same problem. I figure my problem is my geforce 2 video card though.

No BF2 for me.

the minimum reqs for the vid card is a FX5700, your a little short there...and the card needs to have 128megs of ram

No Geforce4 cards are supported. FX and up. Sorry bud. There is a similiar issue with the lower ATI cards as well. It has to do with the shaders. There may be a fix for it but I wouldn't count on EA doing anything about it soon since they specifically list the cards that are compatible.

Expect this to be the norm. You can't expect game designers to make next gen games based on ancient technology.

wtf? have you guys SEEN BF2? the graphics are worse than like the HL2 and Doom3 engines. Although it does make sense if 64 people go in a server and there's a ton of stuff to be processed and generated all at once... Doom 3 only has servers of 8 max or something... i guess i answered my own question

...and I'm not upgrading until next year when both next-gen cards and the new OS is out for a while.

Geforce 4 was macho wheni got it... 2 years and I'm obsolete... it's almost enough motivation to just quit PC gamign altogether and go strictly console... once Nintendo goes online i don't think there'll be much use for a PC gaming from my point of view anymore, haha, it'll be the best $300 i'll ever spend :D

**** the cheapest card i can get is like $199.99, BS, that's like buying two gamecubes.

sometimes it pays to be rich don't it slice... well, actually, that sentance it pretty retarded.

Pffttt Nintendo fanboy :P Anyways, I'm pretty sure you can get some video cards that are cheaper than that that will be compatible with BF2. I think my parent's store have a Radeon 9600 Pro for $175.

Actually the graphics for the whole game will be better. The reason why they don't look so hot is because the default settings are at the lowest. If you crank everthing up it looks awesome. It drops me down to about 22 fps though. Might be time for that BFG 6800 Ultra. 64 players is going to be the norm. Our server is running 64 and there tends to be little if any lag.

They can upgrade the technology to what they see fit. Hell implement the havock physics engine into ss2 deathmatch, but keep the originality, speed, maps and weapons.

The game has the same concept as the other ones. Sure there are a couple upgrades and new feautures such as the new demo record/playback system, which is the only thing i see myself using if anyone requests a movie for it.

At least sam tries to be original and succeeds, unlike the many vehicle based shooters.

BF is fun to play as a team with clanmates and such. I'm more of an individualistic gamer, where i don't have to rely on other people to win.

Your posts are as offensive to me as someone not stopping to say "hello".

FWIW, I bought a 9800 Pro for $179 last August. So I'm sure you can find similar deals these days.

I haven't had time to check this one out just yet due to being in the middle of a move. But I plan to make a return to WoW shortly and will probably check this one out too. :)

Oh the beauty of dual xeon 2.8 processors with a 10k Sata raid drive running Win 2003. We have over a hundred people playing at any given time on our new box between the 2 Demo servers. Wait till the game goes gold, that will be tight. Server names are -=GODS=- CLAN Server 1 and -=GODS=- CLAN Server 2. Our ventrilo server is running on this same box. Feel free to join. :)
