I'm planning to build a new system, and I was wondering if it's worth going to a 64 bit CPU? And if so, intel or amd? What do you guys recommend?

How often do you rebuild your PC? There may not be much out now for 64-bit but that could change in the next couple of years.

This will be about a year since my last upgrade, and four years since I originally got my current rig. So, it may be several years until I build a new one.

Also, will I still be able to install 32 bit Windows XP on a 64 bit system? I know there is a 64 bit version in the works, but I don't want to get it until all the major bugs are out. The little bugs are anoying enough as it is in the 32 bit version. I'm also aware of the native 64 bit Linux, and would have that for sure, but 90% of my games are still only compatible with Winblows.

i am pretty pissed right now since i just spent 30 minutes typing some thing for this thread and i had a power outage and the surge protector/ups did not give a chance to save what i typed. i will have to get back to this later. right now i need to look for a new ups that can handle what i have running.:bawling:

To answer your question, yes a 32 bit operating system works with a 64 bit processor.
