So does anyone know any details about this new Fios service?

Supposedly, it offers insanely fast speeds and dirt cheap rates.

Curious if anyone knows much about it?

I know that my current ISP is Verizon and I've seen their vans all over the place near my place like a year ago, laying down the cables and whatnot. Definitely gonna upgrade my basic ADSL to this when I get the chance. Seems alot more reliable than cable too.

No kiddin. My friend who is getting Fios installed is getting a package that includes 15MB download speed (Dunno on upload) for 39.95/month for the first year and I think 49.95/month after that.

Yes, that's 15MB download for 39.95.

I still think the download rates depend on where you live in relation to the Verizon biulding, distance plays a big part from what I hear.

Ya think it would? From what little I know about fiber, I thought one of the big deals with it is that it DOESN'T suffer much loss at all over the run?

Honestly I was guessing, but I know fiber optic cable can send and receive singals at lightning speeds (light speeds actually :P) So the question is how much are you willing to pay Verizon to have Fios and have some guy come over your house and installing it.

The current deal is free installation and as I mentioned, 39.95/month for 15MB speed! That's cheaper than what I pay for high speed cable access.

Ahhh. Here's the basic published standard rate fees:

Up to 5 Mbps/2 Mbps $34.95 - $39.95

Up to 15 Mbps/2 Mbps $44.95 - $49.95

Up to 30 Mbps/5 Mbps $179.95 - $199.95

Heh, pretty steep jump to the top tier! However, 15/2 would be MORE than enough for me I can say!
