Question - How come my computer that ran Doom 3 fine has trouble running Quake 4 at an acceptable level?

Quake 4 pushes the Doom 3 engine much harder than Doom 3 did, which is why the Minimum System Requirements were raised for Quake 4. Make sure your system meets these requirements. Also, try lowering the video settings of Quake 4 to increase performance.

Question - I receive an error that my Operating System is unsupported when trying to install on Windows 95/98/ME/NT. Is there a workaround?

Quake 4 does not support these Operating Systems, as stated in the Minimum System Requirements. The Installer will still allow the game to be installed in case you plan on running a dedicated server or upgrading your Operating System.

Yea I kinda figured that since Quake 4 not only utilizes the Doom 3 technology it also "improves" on it so to say. Which is good news for the people with good specs LOL.

Right now I doubt that I will be able to run it at a decent framerate.

Now: AMD Athlon 2500, 1 Gig DDR400 RAM, Ati Radeon 9600XT (probably my limiting factor)

But I am currently putting together a system and all I need is to order a video card and my specs will look like this, hopefuly good enough to run the game and enjoy it.

AMD64 3800 X2, 1 Gig Corsair XMS DDR 400, Albatron 7800GT PCI-E.

:D

My vid card is gonna hold back the graphical performance a bit, but yes, I should be able to run it. My my, though, the requirements are getting big!

I haven't tried SP yet but MP does put a strain on my system:

XP2500
1G PC3200
9800XT

It looks like I may have to finally look at a new proc. Also, Sam 2 doesn't run on anything less than Windows 2000 so it looks like that will be the new requirement for new games.

*cough*

eh, shogun...you may want to make a side note in the requirements that someone with a 1.5GHz sempron CPU, 640megs ram, and a radeon 9600 can also run the great game :D

DM, SP or both? My system is borderline and was curious how it might perform.

2200+ (1.8GHz)
1 gig Ram
GF4 4600ti

I haven't tried multiplayer yet, but for singleplayer, it works just fine with a little haziness after an hour of playing (might be somethin overheating or simply needing to clear the memory before continueing.

The trick is to not trust that the low settings are the absolute low settings. Make sure to go into the advance settigns and uncheck shadowing and the anti aliasing if its there. Also check the game options and get rid of anything like wall decals that simply eats memory space up and causes a drag.

I was really worried, but I think with more tuning, i can get ti to run with the best fo em :D

SP works fine for me on medium quality, lowest res. MP has to be low quality to get a good ping. Its kinda odd too since I upgraded from an AGP motherboard to a PCI-Express one and a 9800 Pro to X700 Pro.

I installed it lastnight and it runs fine on my system in both SP and MP .... i've got it set at medium quality and 800x600 but that is fine by me, it beats having to spend beaucoup bucks on hardware upgrades.

Those @#$%& mmorpg games and time have ruined any skills I once had, I need LOTS of practice.

Interesting animated gif to show the differences in the levels of detail. Look at the nearest guy's chest and arm.
