No matter what I do, the fps in q4 r allways the same by me. When the action is there the fps drops to 20 (wich is visible) and when it's over then it goes immediatly back to 50-60 like nothing has happened. Therefore I putted my settings down to the lowest (resolution: 640-480 detail: low, this was also autodetected) but still the same...

My last act in this thing was putting the settings even above average (resolution 1084-8(something) and detail medium) and with great suprise I noticed no performance dropping according to the previous settings.

Can someone explain this (or tell me how to settle the optimal systemconfiguration for smooth running) :D

cpu: 2600+ athlon
videocard: 6600 gt
ram: 1 gb

It takes a pretty fast CPU to play Quake 4 so that is probably your bottleneck. Also how much VRAM does your vid card have. I recommend using this config http://www.q4euro.com/comments.php?blogid=3&eid=108 it should give you a significant FPS boost. GL and post in the right section next time. :P
