First off, sequels (yes, plural!) are in the works for F.E.A.R. The sequels will not be able to use the F.E.A.R. in any sense, as monolith is not going to have Vivendi publish it, but Vivendi owns the name. Additionally, monolith owns the characters, so they can make a game using the characters - they just can't use the title.
Second, You may or may not have heard that "Half-Life 2: Afterlife" is being renamed "Half-Life 2: Episode 1" as they intend to have a series of expansions on the game. News comes out that Life-Life 2: Episode 2 is well underway and may be released rather quickly after the first one. That's good, considering that the first episode is only supposed to be 4-8 hours of gameplay. While it won't come to a conclusion, it will answer questions like
"What happened to the Citadel at the end of Half-Life 2?, What happened to Breen, is he dead? and How does the G-Man factor into all of this?"
