It means basically, getting stabbed w/ something big. You get stabbed with small objects, like swords knifes, etc. You get impaled with like a pole.

Pierce means to make a hole in something as to provide an opening, the hole is usally small. Like people may pierce their ears and put easring in into their piercing. Stabbing is usally done with a knife or any sharp object and when you get stabbed or are stabbing someone it's usally non consentual, unline piercing.
