Ok have a question since I am a noob at what to look for really... what i am wanting is a laptop that will run games like EQ2, WoW, mainly eq2 smoothly and without a lot of umm lag... I have no clue how things rate in this department, if it was a desktop I would know what to order, but at laptops I suck... price is not a big deal but I dont want to spean 2 grand on something that wont get used more than the time that Doc is gone to tech school, so I would like to keep the price to a min... any help would be great!

Thanks

Take your time. Fragetti and I each bought gaming laptops last year and put a ton of time into it. Frag even started with a custom notebook, sent it back, and we both bought the Dell 9300. I can play any game full graphics that is out there today without lag.

If there's a circuit city near you, take a look. My GF got a nice gateway with a AMD 64 cpu, 100gig HD, gig-o-ram, dvd burner, 15-1/4" screen, ATI 200 graphics card in it for $950 including tax. She loves it. I didn't see it on their web site though.

Too bad about Dell, their laptops are solid, but DO NOT get Toshiba either, a few friends of mine have them for work and they are unreliable.

I was going to mention that laptop and glad you did. I am currently running the first version of that gateway which was an e-machines m6809 which is what I have. I can play sam and ut on it and others and I have even played doom3 on it with low settings. Definetly the best laptop I have touched for such a great price. Mine has a 9600 but the newer ones have a better chip which should be even better when playing games.

For the price and considering how fast technology is changing, I would suggest trhe gateway with AMD64. It will even run the newer OS when it's out which only prolongs the life of the unit. I can not see how you can go wrong.

As much as I like Frags and Pures Dell laptops, I just hate Dell and can not give you an unbias comment toward them. I am and was impressed of what they have for what they paid. Do keep in mind thos are not laptops but DTR's. There is a difference and if that is what you really want, look at www.sagernotebooks.com or Alienware which are the same hardware based from taiwan.
