Well, I have used limewire in the past and I have always found what I'm looking for (typically music for legal previews ;)). However, lately when I search for a song, all I get are links to napster.com and pr0n sites.

I'm looking for a program that I can type in the name of a song I hear on the radio and be able to download it. So what p2p programs do you use? And please don't bother mentioning them if they are chock full of spyware/adware/uglyware.

newsgroups. they should have music, they have everything else. or lacking that, an xm or sirius radio isn't too bad.

only for information, DC++ is client of same network like StrongDC is. it means user using DC++ can download from user using StrongDC.

I occasionally monitor pornographic site content for..erm..for the government.

Otherwise I actually have no warez, music, or movies on my computer at all believe it or not. And no porn either - I got rid of it all a while ago when I realized I was collecting stuff I wasn't even looking at. And I have Firefox set to delete everything when I close it.

So there.

I haven't downloaded illegal stuff in years, since before the RIAA stuff even. I used Bearshare up until the P2P clients started getting bogged down with tons of virusii and files that weren't what they were labelled.

Within the past year or so though, I have started using bittorrent to download legal bootlegs which I then also trade with others for even more stuff. In fact, I'm shopping for another external HD since I've passed 300gigs worth of data and counting. :)

In fact, I really really need to sit down and update my list. heh It's horribly out of date and incomplete.

I thought bit torrents were being monitored now more than ever by riaa and mpaa? Isn't that why so many were being taken down by the gov?

I had downloaded the free Limewire once but I never used it.

I got a popup saying Limewire was unable to find a license for this file do you want to download it anyway? I dont know anything about it and didn't want to download anything if it conflicted with licenses/copyrights.

Anyone know if it's ok to do so?

It was free, i already had limewire pro when I bought this computer

I just made a keygen for everyone to use and hosted it on rapidshare~

We're all talking about Bittorents, and other warez affiliated software anyway, and we alllll know what their used for..so I didnt really think it would be a big deal (:

1. No warez. This includes the linking to sites or locations which offer illegal downloads of games or other applications. This also includes discussions regarding warez, ROMS, their use, and ways to retrieve and distribute them.

Yes but with some people you give them an inch and they take a mile so when I felt we had gone too far so I put a stop to it. There are some legitimate uses for the software so we give you all the benefit of a doubt.

There are plenty of legal files shared via P2P programs.

<<Hybrid>>

the best to use is premium rapidshare and torrent trackers that requires registration, max speed from both of them all the time.

Goober:
you can download games from it. Watch around for games mostly MMORPG genre ones, the ones that provides X day trial period, mostly provides a link to Torrent file as well, no difference if its free to play of commercial project.
example: Priston Tale (commercial), Lineage II (commercial) and for F2P example: an open source project: PlaneShift

I mentioned it in my other post on this thread, but mostly I download legal audio and video copies of live music performances and then trade them with other peeps either via torrents or even old-fashioned snail mail.

i download many legal things via p2p. its much faster and without priceless registrations and without queues(remmember about fileplanet). patches, demos, etc.. i also dowload ebooks(many), rare songs, old stuff which i cant buy anywhere, things which were in television at 2am and want to see, programs(.NET frameworks, directX SDK...), and much more things.

Funny thing is my daughter just now asked me how to set up Limewire on her computer, says that's how her friend downloads music. So....how do I make sure she only dowloads legal stuff....short of uplugging her network cable at the switch? Not to mention keeping the rest of my computer network safe.

uh you cant simply set filter on it, i think(sofware doesnt know if its downloading legal or illegal stuff). ive heard about some p2p blockers, but dont know how it works. i guess most reliable way is not to install p2p clients. btw, why not to let your daughter download songs? RIAA?

That was one real good reason not to.... The other reason I haven't let her, is all the computers in the house are on the same network, including my Work computer and NAS drive. Somehow, the idea of her opening up my network to the outside world didn't appeal to me.
Luckily when I set up her computer I set me up as the administrator with a password. She was unable to set up limewire and is now mad at me.......<giggle>

Forget Limewire, Bearshare, edonkey, emule, P2P,

I actually have started to use a news server, paid for, and provided by my isp.

No crappy speeds, always max... IE if you have a 1mb conecction, u always download at 1mb and so on.....

No problems so far :-)
