This movie came out last Friday, and I've been wanting to see it. Unfortunately, its rated R and my cousin who'd take me see it is busy on weekdays (summerschool to get college done faster), and on weekends I'm often busy. Anywho, IGN has an exclusive first 24 min of it:

Its pretty sweet, I really want to see it even more now.

OMG. I really wanted to see it too. Not just because of therweird cel-shaded look either. The story seems to be pretty good. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find any theater in PA that actually screened the film. If you know of any ones nearby (like near Philly) PM me. Thanks for the link.

Good luck with that, it's only on a limited release. So far it's in a whopping 17 theaters.

Like a graphic novel come to life, A Scanner Darkly uses live action photography overlaid with an advanced animation process (interpolated rotoscoping) to create a haunting, highly stylized vision of the future. The technology, first employed in Richard Linklater's 2001 film Waking Life, has evolved to produce even more emotional impact and detail.

Interpolated rotoscoping, yikes that sounds painful. :P

The effect looks neat, I just hope the movie is worth seeing.

Oh well I'll prolly end up renting it since I don't watch movies more than twice unless they are really good. The technique they use is really innovative but you can see that it's not perfect and some of the tracking is off (like when you see the cop car pull up and the "Police" logo jitters on the car). I know most people wouldn't notice that but I do and it bothers me (not that much though). :P It looks much better than a cartoon or an anime in terms of "animation" but it doesn't really decieve me. You can pretty much tell that the director had a real Keanu Reeves and used superimposition or rotoscoping to make him look like an animated entity.

EDIT: Ok I just read on IMDB that it's gonna be a wide release starting July 27th. :)
