Wow. I haven't gotten any of that. I'm using Linux/Firefox at work (where I posted this from), and I'm using XP/Firefox at home (where I also visited that site from).

I'm sorry if this indeed caused anyone problems. I must say though, if you are still using IE, then you are just asking for this stuff to happen, regardless of what version you are using. I use no anti-virus whatsoever, regularly use Spybot Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware, and Windows Defender, and I have yet to get any sort of virus. I also monitor my internet traffic and keep a close eye on which and how many services are running. I dunno how you got all this crap Jimmy, but I'll bet you are using the most dangerous application ever created....IE.

well, good for you guys, glad you didn't get stung.
Originally I went to the site with no problems, and then later revisited it.
That's when all of the GD windows started popping up and explorer went
berserk.

I have to hand it to those scumbags. They have bested me.
The usual purge files by date got most of the crap but not all.
Then there is the locked files. A secret to unlock them is to
go into the properties and take away all access from all users,
this it cannot run. It works for locking registry keys also.
But alas, I must have missed something, it would rename the program
to a tmp and then create a new one.
Next, boot off a windows cd and go into dos restore mode.
I was able to nuke some windows files but it would not let me
into the program files folder. crap.
So.... next step was to delete more deeply. At that point
windows refused to boot, i think there is some config file that it
rewrites on a daily basis that the key is associated to, so it won't
boot if it can't get that info.
Next - repair install windows. stupid winblows. the tcpip stack must have
been blown by virus, nothing I could do to get internet connectivity
or to restore the stack. (including the netsh...)
Screw that. Crack the case and connect and boot off an old drive.
That works. Run lavasoft and then spybot on the now second drive.
lavasoft finds 480 pieces of trash, including some exe's, which were
living somehow in the system volume info folder. bastards.
I need to get biggs over to russia to shoot those fokkers in the head....
:)

hey, no problem sircles, like I said, I was fine the first time, stung the second. the problem with ie is that it can request content and when it comes in it is different from what was requested, so instead of an image it pulls a web page with an activex control launcher embedded. add that to your sig, and post on a bunch of boards and you will hose a bunch of people, although the board itself is not at fault.

I have recovered my system, with ie7 and finally broke down and loaded avg. The icons on my desktop still had the big blue borders. after experimenting
i found that the had enabled active content for the desktop that pointed to some virused files. bastards. those are some smart scumbags. i think though that should be it.

No problems here. I'm running IE (no idea which version) and XP Pro. Glad you and Rosie are OK now.

Note: There is a kids TV programme in the UK called Rosie & Jim :)
