This is a really important issue. It may go over some of your heads as it is fairly technical, but I thought I should make sure everyone is warned.

OMG....ban it, outlaw it, get rid of it totally.

Except for when I need it for the usual Saturday night ritual cleaning.

Thanks for the warning Jim.... ;)

i wonder how many will admit to falling for this?:D

If you hadn't said that, I would have. Chemistry was one of my lowest grades. I don't connect the dots at all when I read the name.

Dihydrogen Monoxide=H2O or water for those who didn't pay attention in Chemistry class.

Di=2 Hydrogen=Hydrogen :P

Mono=1 Oxide=Oxygen

Kinda silly if you know your stuff. At first I immidiately though of Carbon Monoxide CO (which is a deadly gas) when I read the title then I peiced the compound together and it made sense. Since I am not used to seeing the H20 formula written out I kinda fell for the hoax as well.

Some of the FAQ's regarding the dangers of water are factual such as "DHMO is a major component of acid rain." and "Contamination of electrical systems often causes short-circuits."

The rest of the FAQ's are pretty funny such as "What are some uses of Dihydrogen Monoxide?" these include "by the Church of Scientology on their members and their members' families (although surprisingly, many members recently have contacted DHMO.org to vehemently deny such use)" That's gold.

Nope, it's correct. Here are some other commonly used names: Hydrogen oxide, Dihydrogen monoxide, Hydrogen hydroxide.

I think that my chem class used hydrogen oxide

You are not alone. I spent about 5 minutes at that site reading about it and never caught on until Exe gave up the 411. :o

AT least you didn't sign a waiver to ban it, otherwise you would have felt kinda stupid. :P
