Has anyone used any of the commercially available DVD copy software? If so, what did you like and what didn't you like?

I think it is ok for backing up movies that you have legally purchased, same as CD's and tapes. The Supreme Court is looking at this right now, but as of right now it is legal.

They sell software for copying DVD's. CompUSA has DVD copy plus on sale this week. I was just wondering if anyone had tried it or any other program. My 10 yr. old has a bad habit of scratching my DVD's and CD's.

I'm still trying to figure that out. The page referred to a couple of posts up has a ton of info. It will take a couple of days for my pea brain to assimilate it.

Short answer: :WTF: Don't know

Forget it. The DVD burners that are being sold will only burn 4 gigs or something like that. DVDs can hold something like 16-17 gig. They made the burners that way so you cannot copy movies. :WTF:

You can only make 'backup copys' of DVD's you personnaly own.

If you havent got a DVD burner -

You can 'RIP' a dvd movie and convert it to VCD format or SVCD format over 2 standard CDR's. If its done correctly you get virtually the same quality but you lose the DVD menus and Extra interactive stuff. The process involves 3 programs. One to 'RIP' the DVD track, One to convert the soundtrack and video into a useable format and another to put it all back toghether and burn to CDR's.

As i said these programs can only be used to make 'Backups' of stuff you have bought and own. If you need any help PM me and i will explain all.

:)

You can make 'Backups' straight onto DVD but you must lose all the extra stuff. Like menus, interactive, and optional soundtracks.
