Oops...

OCONOMOWOC, Wis. - A man said he broke into an apartment with a cavalry sword because he thought he heard a woman being raped, but the sound actually was from a pornographic movie his upstairs neighbor was watching.

"Van Iveren, who lives with his mother in the downstairs apartment, said he did not call police when he heard the noises because he does not have a telephone. He said he barely knew the upstairs tenant."

Genius!

Exe by the time the cops had gotten there the deed could have been done so it's easy to play monday morning quarterback. He made a split second decision and reacted to help someone he thought was in trouble and ended up himself because he was charged with criminal trespass, criminal damage and disorderly conduct. Because of those bullshit charges too many people today will not go out of their way to help their fellow man, I say the guy deserves much better than he got. ;)

I'm sure that if a woman actually started screaming while being raped (as loud as this guy claims anyway) the assailant should be smart enough to shut the woman up. Even though I think that watching porn at high volume in an apartment building already shows signs of stupidity, it's not as stupid as breaking into an apartment with a sword. So I do feel sorry for the guy but you have to agree with me that he made a very rash decision.

This is the 21st century, people no longer use swords for combat purposes. If a guy came into my house with a sword I would have to assume that he was insane. What the guy could have done was knock loudly on the door and threatened the suspected neighbor with a gun (even if he didn't have one) and kept the sword at his side.

I'm with Sho on this....when you start dealing out baseless criminal charges against people trying to do the right thing, it will lead to a society where no matter what could be going on, people will always feel it is best to stay out of it.

Frankly, I give kudos to the guy as it takes some balls to run up, smash a door in, and hold a possible assailant at bay with a sword. Cheers bud! :wootrock: :jammin: :drink:

I agree that it's unfortunate that he's being charged with all this stuff, but more than that, it's friggin' hilarious.

I can see where he should hav eto pay to fix the door, but the charges are a bit excessive. However, I guess in a world where we pay people $1,000,000 for discovering that McDonald's coffee is hot, this shouldn't exactly come as a shock.

Actually, it would be the neighbor's call to press charges, wouldn't it?
