They found that Sharpton's great-grandfather, Coleman Sharpton, was a slave owned by Julia Thurmond, whose grandfather was Strom Thurmond's great-great-grandfather. Coleman Sharpton was later freed.

Bah. They keep changing the damn article. The first time they clearly said that Sharpton had genetic ties with Thurmond. Then they changed it to Sharpton wanted to investigate DNA ties to Thurmond. Now they don't mention it at all.
