What seems to be the most popular now? I've been out of the loop for so long with fps's that I really have no clue as to what sucks and what doesn't.

Besides SS *cough*, it's my impression that COD2 is the currently most played FPS at GM.

If you are asking about the most popular then I would say Call of Duty 2 or FEAR. Some people also play Battlefield 2 or BF2042. I've tried them all and personally I still find Serious Sam the FPS that suits me best. There is also Quake 4 (but id and Raven never managed to fix several multilayer bugs and I've sold my copy on Amazon since I didn't want to play a game with so many problems, so few good servers, and so few players that I know. UT2004 is quite popular and similar to Sam in some respects and many GM members play it and it is almost bugless.

As for the best FPS, I don't think there is one out yet. Personally I am looking forward to Unreal Tournament 3, and Shadowrun (http://shadowrun.com/). Both games will be out later this year. :)

According to my subjective opinion- Quake 4. Bugs and all.

So you still play it on a regular basis?

^^ Rarely. I've been playing Resistance on the PS3 most of the time.

I would love to play FEAR and it looks great but all the bugs kept me from actually being able to ever run it even once. :(

I should really fire up UT2004 again. That really was a great game.

I still play Sam a fair bit. Once I get this new notebook I'm thinking of trying to run a server for it.

I might even be moving soon into a FIOS area. Woo Hoo! Then I could run a great server.

ironic since you play serious sam.

ironic since you play serious sam.
I also forgot to add that I am not as skilled in Q4 as I am in Serious Sam, and while Raven and the Q4Max developers keep attempting to "fix" the game's MP Serious Sam remains constantly the same. I got used to all of the bugs in Serious Sam 3 years ago and the fact that they don't change makes the game enjoyable for me.

To be honest I don't think I've ever played a game without some bugs or without things that I thought could be better. Serious Sam has all of the aspects of a great shooter but it falls short in many specific ways that make it so unpopular amongst the "good" fast-paced FPS gamers.

I got into Counter Strike:Source and have been playing for the past couple of weeks. Its a fun game, but its been out long enough where the players are too good to have much fun. So I just play by myself with a bunch of bots..

Yea there are very few games with good mature communities. The Quake community is a good example of a mature community but it's very difficult to start and get good in a day. In order to be good at the game you need to practice A LOT. The UT community is pretty mature too.
