Quake and Doom are 2 of the oldest games that have remained immensely popular.

Doom and GM never seemed to take off, but Quake made a serious play in its day. Anybody have some stuff to add for this section?

At one point I belive that Slash had hosted a Q3 Freeze Tag server. Many of the Outlaws played, personally I never really got into it. During the last GM tourney in 2005 or 2004 several GM members had signed up for the Quake 3 tournament. The game mode was FFA and I remember tying with SLiK but then we had a 1v1 and he emerged on top.

It was Fragetti that ran the server off his home connection. Slash installed Q3 but didn't stick with it more than a few days.

was there much involvement with Quake 1 and 2 or were they already too old by the time GM came around?
