I've been thinking about a 1 or 2 gig flash pen, then I saw this: http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=203266631&adid=17653&dcaid=17653

Look any good?

My buddy has the 6 gig model and loves it - and 39.99 is a FANTASTIC deal for those.

They still retail for > $100 in stores, easy (the 160 that the site claims seems inflated)

I would definitely tell you to go for it.

I always feel safer about those than the stick version anyways. The USB part hides when you're not using it, so it's harder to break the thing.

i ordered this sweet deal as well.

one question though:

how cna i get it so that i can install an OS onto the drive and make my BIOS recognize it so it boots from the usb drive's OS and not the PC's hdd os?

Most recent BIOSs will allow a USB or FireWire device to be selected as the default boot device. Careful loading an OS on it though as the frequent writes may wear it out faster than you'd like. There are linux versions with special caching to temporary spots on your hard drive to avoid wearing your USB stick out if you're interested.

pure that looks like a great find and I plan to order one myself if they are not sold out already. I have a sandisk cruszer which is also great as it actually holds my skype app etc when plugged in. I may use this thing for a larger toolbox for myself.

Nitro, DE is correct about the bios recognizing USb devices. As far as loading an os on it there are better solutions. I am currently trying to design a cartridge specific computer that is small in design and can run for a specific applications.

ohh i didnt think about the wear and tear that might arise but yea, i was going to go with a Linux but the thing is, i want the OS on the USB so that I can plug it into a pc that doesnt have a HDD so that all traces or whatever i do are kept on the USB drive to ensure total privacy. if im not downloading or instlaling much, there shouldnt be that much wear and tear on the drive right? would you be able to give any estimated time period in which is dies out? if its like a year or more, im fine wit that since its only 40 bucks.

also, let me know how your project is going
