I'll have to go by certain catagories. I'm a huge music freak (Hell, just look at the bootleg trade list in my sig. Har).

Best balls-to-the-wall classic rock song: Mississippi Queen (Mountain)

Best cool driving song: In A Daydream (Freddy Jones Band)

Best techno-type pump you up song: It's a tie!
1) Battle Flag (Lo-Fidelity Allstars)
2) Block Rockin Beats (Chemical Brothers)

By the way, for Pink Floyd - my favourite is the more obscure song Fearless

I'll throw some others out later.

Ha! Man you sent me flying. I really dig Mazzy Star and had never come across them doing a cover of this.

However, after some google-fu it appears that a very common misconception is crediting Mazzy Star with a version of Wild Horses when it IS in fact The Sundays.

And it's a Rolling Stones/Graem Parsons tune. Most people, if they've heard the song before, have heard the 'Stones version since it was a pretty decent hit for them.

Mazzy Star mistake link (check out #7):

Random note - I just picked up a cool bootleg DVD that is a compilation of a bunch of Mazzy Star tv performances. Damn that girl is sexy!

Those are some good tunes Sho. Both are a little bit out of my usual tastes, but they are good songs.

Even being out of my norm though, they are pretty firmly in my catagory of "Stuff I'd like a lot more if they weren't so overplayed" if you know what I mean.

I can't say I have a "favorite song". It depends on my mood.

Vietnam-era movies play a lot of good songs, and when they come on I always say "Hell ya!" and rock out.

I've stayed pretty progressive though, and thoroughly diversified. I'm a rocker at heart, but there are some times that I can really get into music from other genres. Except rap. Still waiting for rap too die so I can piss on it's grave. :)

I've always liked this song, but back when the Cincinnati Bengals knew how to play football and this became their theme song, wow, just wow. The moment this song would start the Bengals fans would be instantly stoked. Beer, popcorn, and hotdogs everywhere. I don't even follow sports, but I was dragged to one of their games back then, and when they started playing this song, then OMG, there was enough adrenaline flowing in the crowd to power a large city for months.

I can't say I have a prticular favorite. Like friends, how can anyone say they consider anyone to be a better friend than the other. I enjoy songs from so many different kinds of music. I actually started liking country music a few years ago. Good music is good music and I can make cd's with a eruo techno on one trac and van morrison on another. That's just me. I guess I like music that reminds me of some time in my life that makes me think when I hear the song or another song that just amakes ya think.

I do like some rap songs mostly the beats. Although probably the least liked, I do get disgusted when I hear lyrics from an adult that sounds like a 9 yr old put together. Slim shady had somne great songs and he definetly has talent but the lack of respect in his songs make them not worth listening to. Any moron can curse.

That's not emo at all. In Flames is probably one of the best Swedish melodic death metal bands. I'm also a big fan of bands like Tool, 311, Fear Factory, NIN, A Perfect Circle, Rage Against the Machine, The Offspring, Primus, Chevelle, and I discover new bands that I like every day.

These guys are pretty good too.

Hah Xeno you have a very undeveloped taste in music or you only like what you are used to. I can tell just by the way you respond to mine and chao's posts. It takes some time to really get into a certain type of genre. For instance I didn't automatically enjoy the songs by Tool or Primus. It took a while to "get". You must understand that liking music is a matter of taste and some people will stick with the "sounds" they are used (if one song sounds similar to another then it's good) to while others will try and find new sounds and explore the different approaches musicians take to create something new and original.

Just don't diss other people's taste in music. It is much easier to say something negative than to come up with something positive. Be intelligent and either say something nice or nothing it all when it comes to the type of music a person listens to, what clothes they wear, and how they choose to express themselves.

I've seen much bigger losers who have jobs and don't wear black clothes or black colored hair. I don't wear anything that would make me look like I need or want attention. I have enough experience when it comes to these things. You aren't really in touch with reality since you judge people based on the way they look.

The version that you are familiar with is done by The Sundays.

Mazzy Star has never covered the song Wild Horses.

The song was originally done by Graem Parsons and was made well known when it was covered by The Rolling Stones.

Barlow Girl (Personally I'm not a fan - call me sexist, but I can't stand girls singing rock; however, musically they're pretty good)
Thousand Foot Krutch (first is rap/punk, the 2nd and 3rd Cds are more of a rock sound mixed w/ punk)
Krystal Meyers (my exception to the chick rule - I tend to like her music, at least what I've heard of it)
Seventh Day Slumber

I can't say I have a "favorite song". It depends on my mood.

Vietnam-era movies play a lot of good songs, and when they come on I always say "Hell ya!" and rock out.

I've stayed pretty progressive though, and thoroughly diversified. I'm a rocker at heart, but there are some times that I can really get into music from other genres. Except rap. Still waiting for rap too die so I can piss on it's grave. :)

I agree with all the new rap out there, but I like the "old school" rap that had no cussin' (Whodini, Grandmaster Flash, Sugarhill Gang, Kurtis Blow, Run DMC, etc.), plus I consider my diversed in all music; I love Toby Keith's Beer For My Horses, to Tschikovsky's The Nutcracker... and yes, I love rock... mostly classic rock (Styx's Mr Roboto).

Only thing that sucks is when he tries to go a little faster than he is able to right at the end of the bridge.

I also REALLY just love the fact that these two guys are in either a dorm room or a small apartment, just freakin going to town and there's not a drop of sound outside the heaphones. That's just too damn cool. lol

I can't believe I hadn't thought of another of my favourites before. I've poked around and can't find any decent sources to link to though. :(

The song is "Travellin' Light - Live" by Widespread Panic. The studio version is good, don't get my wrong... but the live version. Holy Crapstick.

While I hate to catagorize it as 'Jam Band' I'd have to admit that's essentially where it falls. "Southern" Jam Band stuff really. They definately know how to have a great jam in the middle of a song without losing the song they were playing if you get my meaning.

It's off the CD 'Light Fuse Get Away' and I'd say it's totally worth the .99c download cost if you like good jam rock. Little bit of Dave Matthews mixed with a bit of Allman Brothers mixed with a bit of OLD Blues Traveller mixed with a bit of OLD Phish and then given it's own spin. Hows that for a description? lol

You can hear a watered down spot of the beginning of it off Amazon, though this is really before it kicks into gear (Disc 1 track 8):
http://www.amazon.com/Light-Fuse-Away-Widespread-Panic/dp/B0000064U1/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/103-9033311-5015834?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1178056632&sr=8-2

It should be available for download on most major services.
