Decided on the Radeon 8500 or 9000 for my new system. Both are about the same price, 149.00 for the 8500 and 129.00 for the 9000. Both have 128 meg DDR.

Any advice?

Hmmm. Let me see if I can find some benchmarks before I coose. I'm not real familiar with those models.

Be back in a few. ;)

I would have to say the 8500 outperformed the 900 on most of the benchmarks that I saw.

Here is a good read.

I have a ATI 8500 VIVO 64 meg DDR. I paid $189 for that card a yr ago. If you can get it for 149 w/128 Meg that’s great. It performs just fine for me. I can run any game at the highest Res. I can drag a DVD video window box across my desk top with little or no flicker. Nice card wish I had 128 Meg.

Thanks for the link to the article. I think the 8500 is the way I will go.

unless you have the $$$ If you do, I would go with the 9700 Pro, it kicks sam!! :wootrock:

Isn't a GF4 Ti-4200 faster? Does it have to be ATI?

I don't believe it is. I was looking at some for a while, and well they just didn't compete too well with the 9700, so I went out and bought that.

No, I meant faster then the 8500/9000. The 9700 kicks even the TI 4600's butt. I thought the 4200 was fairly inexpensive though.

They are fairly close to each other. 4200 beats the 8500 in more than half the benches.

Hehe, the funniest thing is that 8500 has much more features than Ti4600, like Pixel-Shader 1.4....:P
8500 is fully DirectX 8.1 compatible, while Ti4600 is only 8.0. :w00t: It doesn't have much difference, though.
But uhm yeah, get 8500 or 9100. They are exactly the same cards, but I believe 9100's are cheaper than 8500's (at least in Finland). If you have more menoy, get Ti4200. If you can spend even more money, get 9500 PRO.
