The Group of Eight (G8) is an international forum for the governments of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States. Together, these countries represent about 65% of the world economy. The group's activities include year-round conferences and policy research, culminating with an annual summit meeting attended by the heads of government of the member states. The European Commission is also represented at the meetings.

Each year, member states of the G8 take turns assuming the presidency of the group. The holder of the presidency sets the group's annual agenda and hosts the summit for that year. The presidency for 2007 belongs to Germany, which will host the 33rd G8 summit in Heiligendamm from June 6 to June 8.

In my opinion i am not sure, because on one side they show us interest on the world's problems like climate protection or the famine in Africa. But on the other side i guess at the end they make what they want and try to put the biggest profit to their own cash.

Now i would like to know what you think about it.

governments are supported by free enterprise

free enterprise needs to produce products at lowest cost possible

you earn 13$ an hour

Chinaman earns 13$ a week

who's gonna lose his job ??????

if things were equal in the world it would be OK to globalise ...

but right now only the rich profit from globalisation... mr everybody will earn less and less due to competition from underpaid 3rd world work force !!

That's a good point, i agree with that. But if every rich state, would help a 3rd world country, for example to decrees their debts and spend some money ( i also know there is a big corruption, but it has to be controlled), the 3rd world country could build from alone a new infrastructure and is in 20 or 30 years maybe a middle-state. New infrastructure, especially for children.

India hasn't done too bad in the last seven years.
:P

I think you'd have to agree they have made great strides forward, mainly on their own.

An excellent book about how the newly connected world effects us all:

I'm reading that now, very informative and well written. And Nick your statement has very negative connotations towards globalization. The fact that outsourcing creates jobs abroad means that there are now people who have the opportunity to make $13/hour instead of say $1/hour. China's economy is growing and it will soon rival that of US. Of course there will be class division and the rich will benefit greatly from a growing economy but so will the poor. Therefore a middle class will soon prevail.

It's been proven that communism and/or socialism doesn't work well for an economy and leaves everyone poor. A free market economy, if implemented globally, will leave only the ones who do not work to suffer through poverty. At least that's my take on it. I might be wrong.
