I know some parts of the country the houses don't have basements. I'm taking a survey. How old is your house, where do you live, and do you have basement (or cellar, I guess...)
Missouri, 30 years old, and yes we have a basement (in case of dem tornadoes)

My house, 27 years old with basement....Kinda hilly in East Tennessee....about half of the houses have them.
