It's just a couple blocks and the car won't even make it, wtf. I started going and the car started acting like crap, so I just parked and walked home, should I even bother walking to Wal-Mart to get the oil or should I have my dad look at it?

engine - oil + run = cooked

EricC

Wouldn't I need to drive for a couple hours for it to get that hot though? Sometimes I drive all day and when I put my hand on the hood it's just warm. The engine's made of metal, not plastic or something, I don't think the whole thing could just melt that fast.

Are you trying to scare me?

Here is what happened. The Block needs to have oil to lube the parts. The block froze from lack of lube. Pistons overheated and expanded caused the block to crack. You may not see the cracks but I assure you it cracked.

The Cylinder heads (top half of engine) experienced the same thing.

Dependiing on the type of vechile you have the cost to repair could range from 3 grand up to 5 grand. A company called STK maked good engines.

I left a message on my dad's voice mail. I didn't tell him the whole story, just that my car had some trouble. I left it in a municipal parking lot. I'll put some oil in it before he gets over there and let him look at it and see what he says.

Putting oil in it will not help. Be honest with your pops.

Man, sorry to tell you but your engine is definantly going to be gone unless your extremely lucky, which i really doubt. Your engine does not run without oil, just like who cares stated your block is most likely cracked and your pistons probably did too. :(

This has the 5 stages of grief written all over it:

Denial - It can't melt that fast.

Anger - stop scaring him, guys

Bargaining - I'm gonna put oil in it so my dad thinks it's something else and doesn't get so mad.

Depression - My dad is going to kill me.

Acceptance - We're waiting anxiously.

I dont know how you can't see the "big deal" because you just said it runs really crappy. Theirs evidence that you made a really... REALLY bad mistake.

Im also curious as to why you would do that anyway. It wouldn't have saved time to do that before or after. Oh well.

I just hope it isn't a nice car...

Because I didn't HAVE the oil THERE and I wanted to get started. I'm sorry if I like to do things efficiently.

You had to go to wal-mart to get oil no matter which way you did it.

HOW would it possibly be more efficient to stop a project in the middle to get required parts than to get everything and do it start-to-end without stopping?

Also...HOW can you know how to change oil without knowing it's importance?

When My dad taught me to change oil, he must have repeated 1 thing 1000 times.

When you finish, make sure you have the nut back in the oil pan TIGHT.

When you pour oil in, watch the bottom. When you're done, check the bottom. Wait 5 minutes...check the bottom.

Because if the oil comes out and you so much as turn the car on, you WILL do damage.

I had to laugh, but I've seen things like that happens all too often here at the dealership..We had a Mustang in here not too long ago, 25,000 miles and the original gray old filter from the assembly line still on it..Guy argued with us about it, " why should I have to change my oil, it's a brand new car !! "

what makes you think it is fake?

The idea that someone knows how to change oil, but doesn't know that you can't run a car without it is similar to the idea that someone knows how to install a video card, but doesn't understand that power is required to turn the thing on...

The reason I believe this is real is that he posted something REALLY stupid and still doesn't understand why its such a problem (to not have oil in the car). Why would he make a fool out of himself, its not funny, its not making him become famous.

It still bothers me..

I'm not saying the car doesn't need oil at all ever, but I don't believe that I just can't drive it even a couple blocks without it without destroying my car. I still had coolant, it wasn't that hot a day, I don't see why my engine would melt.

Got more to do with friction than melting although with a lot of friction the heat can/will build up very fast which cause expansion and so there will be even more friction. And when u have enough friction it will rip itself apart till there is no friction anymore ,but you might have guessed that something like that ain't a good way to get rid of it :)

 LOL good thread!
your engine didnt melt, it probably just seized up. the oil is in there to keep things cool and lubricate to keep things moving smoothly. when metal gets hot, it expands, the oil keeps the pistons cool (well, cooler then they would be with no oil :P ) so they dont expand. your pistons got hot, expanded and pretty much got stuck in the cylinder.... let me use this picture as an example...

http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/how-winnie-the-pooh-works-6.jpg

lets just say, winnie the pooh is your piston, and the rabbit hole is your cylinder. your piston ate too much honey and is now too fat to move... he could probably get out of there if he was slathered in oil and wasnt such a fatass. needless to say, you will need a donkey, a kangaroo and a small boy with a drum to fix your engine.
